Imbolc Blog Hop 2017 - Fostering Ace Energy

Aces are the first card in each suit, and as such, the energy of the Ace is rather without form or substance. It hasn't yet been subjected to the scrutiny or discussion of the Two, or the practical structuring of the Four...it's not been subject to conflict or resolution or external input. Instead, it is the itch, the niggle, the excitement, the can't-sit-still-ness, and the desire to 'do', without necessarily knowing the answers to all the usual questions - why, how, when, where, with whom?
Ace energy tends to be raw, it is borne of determination, or a response to refresh or renew, or a desire for different horizons, or because we feel that we deserve something else, something better, something 'more'. How we mould and nurture that energy determines how it will coalesce into our lives, and how it will reward, enrich and nourish us on our journey.
The energy of the Ace can be demanding - it wants to come to fruition, it wants to take shape and form, and it leaves us with all those residual feelings of energy as-yet-unused, like a caffeine or sugar high.
It can be tricky sometimes to see where we need to best guide our efforts to ensure that our desires, needs, projects and plans come to maturity...and to help with that, i've developed the 'How Does Your Garden Grow' spread.
If we see the energy of the Ace as a seed to be planted, nurtured, cared for, and brought to flower or fruit, then we see a way to read that energy, from the seed that we plant in the ground, through the first shoots, branches and leaves, to bud, flower and fruit...and then recycling to nurture the roots and repeat the cycle...
Using the Tarot we can read either a single portion of that energy, or we can read all four elements, so that we understand how that 'oomph!' of energy, that 'get-up-and-go', that drive, desire and determination can be harnessed, nurtured, and used to create something magical, wonderful and rewarding in our lives.
Card 1 is the seed, that we plant in the ground - if we already know what we want to do with that energy, then this gives shape and form to those ideas, to guide us in how to bring the first shoots to the surface. If we don't know what we want to do with that energy, this first card can guide us to something constructive, creative and fulfilling that will enrich us. Much like the first shoots of spring, it can be fragile, requiring protection and careful nurturing to ensure it survives, and doesn't wither and die before its time. This card will guide us in how to strengthen, protect and guide those energies to the sunlight that will feed them.
Card 2 shows us the first leaves that will feed the seedling and provide it with much needed energy to continue its growth. This card is the driving force, a source of continued food or sustenance that will stoke the initial energy of the project over time and will provide ongoing support and input. It shows us where we can find that strength to continue over time, and where we might need to 'dig deep' or work hard to push to the next level of growth.
Card 3 represents the first branches or where the tall stem of our growing seed threatens to split. It can show us either where we need to diversify our efforts, so that we embrace either a new direction, or a duality/diversification in the growth of our project...or it can show us where we risk being sidetracked, investing energy that will not lead us to our goal but will instead 'lead us up the garden path' and siphon energy away from our goals.
Card 4 is the fruit or flower of our efforts - it's how our energies will take form in this cycle, and how our efforts will leave us feeling, whether we are left replete that we have succeeded, or whether there is more work to be done, to continue on, continue to grow, and repeat the cycle again! By comparing this outcome card to our initial ideas and ideals, it can identify how different things might turn out to how we first envisaged them at the planting and planning stages.
Card 5 is the roots, when the flower fades and the fruit falls away from what we've planted, some of that energy is recycled, reborn to either feed the project anew and give it fresh life and renewed impetus. It can also identify those things that are hidden from view, but that can help or hinder our project, and that we need to be aware of its influence on the renewed growth!
By examining the individual elemental areas, we can see how they need tending in different ways to bring them the best chance of success. Whether it's the practical matters, financial concerns, or funding for a project, the Earth column will show us how those commitments can be met; the Air column will identify where we need to be clear with our planning, decision making and organisation; Fire will identify where our drives and determination can be anchored for best effect, and where that fire needs to be stoked and protected to keep it from being snuffed out by examining this column of cards; and finally our personal and heart-centered commitment to the project can be investigated in the Water column, showing us as much about self-care and balancing our energies as it does about what we commit to the project at hand!
