Sunrise/Sunset Spread
Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Reeds driftin' on by
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
We've all approached those moments in our lives when we feel something approaching - a new opportunity, a fresh start, a milestone moment when we feel that we can truly put our stamp on a situation. We go to bed knowing that the next day will be one of opportunity, growth, strengthening...a step forwards towards our goals. And it's at that moment that a Sunrise/Sunset spread can help us to take a look at where we are, what we need to focus on, and where we can best direct our energies for success, whilst letting go of those things that are holding us back, tethering us to the past, or restricting our release from our shadow selves.
The first card shows us the here and now of the situation, the moment we are in, that tipping point between the light and the dark and calls on us to recognise the shadows that we've cast behind us, and the light that calls us forward.
Card two is the Driving Force, the 'energy snap', the things that we should hook our determination onto so that we are carried forwards with enthusiasm. The third card is the Baggage card - it's the anchor that is holding us back, slowing us down, dragging on the ocean bed, and preventing our speedboat from skimming across the surface of the water!
The other cards are read rotationally, following that cycle of sunrise and sunset, allowing those negative things to fall away from us, and embracing those positive things that rise up ahead of us.
Cards four and five are Focus and Distraction respectively, with Focus showing us what we need to recognise to bring structure and direction to our efforts, and will assist us in maintaining that positive change of energy recognised by the Driving Force card. The Distraction card shows us something that has drained or misdirected our energy, taking our positive resources and diverting them and squandering or wasting that potential.
The sixth and seventh cards are Embrace and Release, showing us the opportunity that we need to welcome into our lives with that shift to the positive, to embrace that positive change and to take advantage of moving forwards, and then the aspects that we have outgrown and need to release, lest they hold us back, or keep us in the 'now' as we try to move forwards positively.
Finally, cards eight and nine are Develop and Retire, and these talk about skills or knowledge that we should develop, deepen or strengthen to solidify those foundations that we're building our new future on, and also retire - those things where we might have spent our energies previously developing, but would now pose a distraction or timesink, and so should allow to fall by the wayside, giving way to that new focus.
By recognising the cyclical nature of development and focus, the natural ebb and flow of our own energies and enthusiasm, we can keep ourselves moving forwards, keep ourselves motivated and energised, consistently 'sharpening our saw', whilst shedding those negative layers that can restrict us or clutter our viewpoint.
Give the Sunrise/Sunset spread a try, and let me know what you think of it - I'd love to get your feedback!
